Six Men's Water Polo Players Named to CWPA All-Academic Team

April 1, 2008

BRIDGEPORT, PA - The George Washington men's water polo team placed six players on the 2007 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Academic Team and was one of seven teams to earn All-Academic squad honors, the league announced Monday.

GW boasted a team grade-point average of 3.00, fifth-best among the CWPA's 25 programs, to receive All-Academic squad honors for the fourth time since 2003.

Junior Connor Lynagh and freshman Peter Thomas earned superior status on the All-Academic Team for posting grade-point averages (GPA) between 3.4 and 3.71. Senior Justin Licht, juniors David Zenk and Andrew Sweeney and sophomore John-Claude Wright earned excellent status with GPAs between 3.2 and 3.4.

It marks the third consecutive year that Zenk and Sweeney were named to the CWPA All-Academic Team, and second straight season for Licht, Lynagh and Wright.

GW finished the 2007 season ranked No. 17 in the CWPA National Top 20 after placing third at the Eastern Championships in November, the program's best finish at the event. The Colonials finished the 2007 season 12-18 overall, with three victories against Top 20 foes and 11 losses by two goals or less to Top 20 teams.
