Seven Men's Water Polo Players Named to ACWPC All-Academic Team

April 9, 2008

BREA, CA - The George Washington men's water polo team placed seven players on the 2007 Association of College Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-Academic Team and posted the fifth-highest team grade-point average in the nation, the organization announced Monday.

GW boasted a team grade-point average of 3.00, trailing only Stanford, Harvard, Johns Hopkins and UC-Davis among the programs reporting for the ACWPC Academic Awards.

Junior Connor Lynagh and freshman Peter Thomas earned superior status on the All-Academic Team for posting grade-point averages (GPA) between 3.4 and 3.71. Senior Justin Licht, juniors David Zenk, Sergei Shev and Andrew Sweeney and sophomore John-Claude Wright earned excellent status with GPAs between 3.2 and 3.4.

Zenk, Wright and Shev were placed on ACWPC All-Academic Teams for the second consecutive season.

GW finished the 2007 season ranked No. 17 in the CWPA National Top 20 after placing third at the Eastern Championships in November, the program's best finish at the event. The Colonials finished the 2007 season 12-18 overall, with three victories against Top 20 foes and 11 losses by two goals or less to Top 20 teams.
