CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA -- The George Washington golf team struggled to a two-round 628 to tie Saint Joseph's for last place at the 21st annual Virginia Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville Saturday and Sunday. The host Cavaliers defended their 2007 championship in the event with a 575, three strokes ahead of runner-up Augusta State (578) at the par-72, 6,879-yard Birdwood Golf Course.

GW's Lewis Sturdy was the low Colonial after carding a seven-over-par 151 (75-76) to tie for 37th place in the 111-player field. His teammate, Eddie Newland tied for 62nd with a 155 (79-76) and freshman Brendan Barrack tied for 81st place with a 158 (77-81).

Augusta State's Henrik Norlander won the event with a five-under 139 (71-68) that included a second-round 68 on Sunday. He edged Virginia's Greg Carlin (69-71--140) and NC State's Brad Revell (70-70--140) by a stroke.

Next up for the Colonials is the 54-hole Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, May 2-4, at Orange County National Golf Course in Winter Garden, FL, near Orlando.
