WASHINGTON, DC -- Former George Washington golfer Brian Carroll (Crystal Lake, IL) has qualified for the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic which will be played Thursday through Sunday, July 10-13, at the TPC at Deere Run in Silvis, IL.
He is believed to be the first GW golfer to qualify for a PGA Tour event since Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Jay Randolph (`56) competed as an amateur in the 1954 National Celebrity Classic at Congressional Country Club. Currently the play-by-play broadcaster for the St. Louis Cardinals, Randolph was paired with current ABC-TV golf commentator Bob Rosburg and renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio in that event although he missed the cut.
Carroll shot a 67 on Monday in a qualifier for the last four spots in the field. He was tied with four other players at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, IL, before carding a 3 on the first playoff hole to advance. He has a 1:44 p.m. tee time on Thursday and is paired with Australia's Dave Lutterus and Brad Adamonis from the U.S.
Fans can follow Carroll's progress on The Golf Channel on Thursday and Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If Carroll can make the 36-hole cut, Saturday's and Sunday's coverage will air on CBS from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Fans also can follow the event with Live Scoring at PGATour.com.
