WASHINGTON, DC - The Freshman Eight were victorious over Georgetown for the first time since 2004 in the Duel on Sunday, April 27, on the Potomac River.
Under the leadership of first-year assistant James Sands, the Freshman defeated Georgetown in 5:58.3, besting Georgetown by 7.3 seconds.
The Varsity 8 did not fare as well as the headwinds from the cloudy skies slowed the Colonials, who fell by just over eight seconds.
The 2nd Varsity eight kept it closer, clocking in at 5:59.0. However, the Hoyas were just faster in 5:54.3.
The 3rd Varsity Eight held a lead until the 800 meter mark, but Georgetown rallied for the come-from-behind victroy in 6:02.1. GW finished in 6:06.2.
The Colonials take on Boston University Saturday, May 3 on the Charles River in Boston, MA. The next day, GW takes on Holy Cross on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA.
