Six Women's Lacrosse Players Collect Atlantic 10 All-Conference Honors

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Six George Washington women's lacrosse players garnered Atlantic 10 All-Conference recognition, highlighted by second team All-Conference nods for seniors Kristin Karcsh and Katelyn Honeyford, in voting conducted by the league's head coaches and released by the conference office Thursday.
Junior defender Katie Lilly earned honorable mention All-Conference honors and freshman Audrey Joy was placed on the All-Rookie Team.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Garman received All-Academic Team consideration for the third consecutive season in voting conducted by the league's Sports Information Directors. Classmate Hayley McDonough joined Garman on the Academic All-Conference Team.
Karcsh, who has led GW in scoring the last two seasons, earned her second consecutive second-team nod and third All-Conference award overall. She had at least one point in 14 of 16 games and paced the Colonials with 31 goals, 42 points and 25 draw controls in 2008. A team tri-captain, Karcsh scored the game-winning goal in GW's upset of Richmond April 16 and finished her career as GW's career leader in games played and draw controls, second all-time with 115 career goals and 165 points, third in assists with 50 and fourth with 114 ground balls.
Preseason All-American Katelyn Honeyford also earned All-Conference recognition for the third straight season after receiving first team honors in 2007 and honorable mention recognition in 2006. Honeyford was second on the team with 15 caused turnovers, fourth on the team with 19 draws and sixth with 18 ground balls this season. The team tri-captain also added 10 goals from her defender position and ends her career in the Top 6 all-time at GW in ground balls (t6th - 107), caused turnovers (3rd - 83) and draw controls (3rd - 85).

Lilly led GW and ranked fourth in the A-10 with 42 ground balls, caused a team-leading 16 turnovers and was second on the team with 21 draws this spring. The 5-10 defender also chipped in five goals and two assists this season, including a career-high three points on two goals and an assist against A-10 regular-season co-champion Temple on April 11.
Joy led GW's six-member rookie class with five goals, three assists and 14 ground balls in 2008. She tallied a career-high two goals in a 13-7 conference win over La Salle on March 28 and had at least one ground ball in each of the Colonials' last six games.
GW's career saves leader, Garman is the first three-time All-Academic Team selection in the seven-year women's lacrosse program's history. A communication major and 2007 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II pick, Garman finished third in the A-10 with a .464 save percentage and fourth in the league with 149 saves this season.
McDonough, a psychology major, tallied a single-season career-best 16 points on 10 goals and six assists this year. She also set or matched career-highs in ground balls (16), draws (11) and caused turnovers (9) and exploded for five goals and three draws in a 21-10 victory at Saint Mary's (CA) on March 17.
GW closed its season with wins over previous league unbeaten Richmond and Saint Joseph's to narrowly miss qualifying for the A-10 Championship for the second year-in-a-row. The Colonials finished 5-11 overall, 3-4 in the Atlantic 10, with nine of the team's 11 losses coming by four goals or less, including four one-goal losses.
